Ron Shute 

 Candidate for Secretary of the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency

Ron is in his 16th year with the Florida Department of Corrections, has served across three regions at two major facilities—Charlotte CI and Suwannee CI—and is currently assigned to the Bureau of Staff Development in Central Office. Throughout his career, Ron has exemplified the belief that it takes a village to build a strong, resilient, and compassionate correctional community. His approach to leadership has always centered on empowering others—helping everyone discover their own “purpose through service”.

As a trainer and instructor, Ron has dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring all staff, regardless of title or tenure, fostering an environment where learning and growth are shared responsibilities. Ron’s instructor certifications always carry the same result, using a gained opportunity to empower others through teaching skillsets. Whether teaching the over 400 National Guard in their mission to supplement staff at the institutions, to certifying hundreds of Special Operations Team members across Florida, Ron consistently demonstrates servant leadership rooted in humility, empathy, and a genuine care for his FDC family.

Fostering a continued culture of Correctional wellness, Ron has been the muscle and bone of the Post Trauma Peer Support Team, serving staff in the immediate aftermath of traumatic events as the Statewide Coordinator with nearly 40 activations throughout the agency. This team nearly 300 staff members strong promotes careers of longevity by guiding staff through the pitfalls of the agency, and the unexpected events that negatively affect staff.

A proud FCCD member, Ron has served in chapter positions in chapters 15 and 2 as the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President while also serving as the Co-Chair of Training at the yearly Institute for the last 6 years. Ron’s dedication to the organization goes beyond his chapters, as he has helped numerous chapters by traveling the state conducting training events for multiple chapters, assisting them fulfill their training needs for chapter effectiveness. Ron understands that building a village within the Department and FCCD means more than managing operations—it means nurturing people, reinforcing values, and inspiring confidence in one another and in these organizations as a whole. Guided by tradition yet driven by innovation, he continues to forge the next generation of correctional professionals and FCCD members who will carry forward the visions and missions of these organizations with integrity, purpose, and pride.
